Effective Radon Mitigation in Central Ohio to Protect Your Home and Health

Licensed, certified radon reduction systems designed to protect your home and family.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that enters homes through the soil. At elevated indoor levels, it poses serious long-term health risks.

Our state-licensed professionals design and install custom mitigation systems backed by decades of local experience and the environmental expertise of Protect Environmental.

Overview

Radon mitigation is the process of reducing indoor radon gas using an installed system that vents it safely outside. Professional mitigation combines a suction point, vent piping, and a continuous-run fan. A properly designed system can cut radon levels by up to 99 percent.

Professional Radon Mitigation to Protect Your Home and Health

In Central Ohio, radon exposure is a real concern. More than 50 percent of homes in the region test above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L.

Our team uses diagnostic pressure testing with a micromanometerand radon grab samplers to evaluate how radon moves through your home. These tools allow us to design systems that match your foundation type and building layout.

Every system is installed by state-licensed and certified professionalsand verified with a follow-up radon test.

Proven Radon Reduction Systems

Radon mitigation systems work by redirecting radon gas from beneath the home and venting it outdoors before it enters the living space.

We design custom systems based on each home’s construction and foundation. Common system types include:

Sub-slab depressurization systems
Crawl space radon control systems
Sealed sump pit mitigation systems
High-performance radon fans and vent piping
System monitoring and performance indicators

By addressing the pathways radon uses to enter, these systems reduce indoor radon levels and improve air quality.

What Homeowners Are Saying

Team did a great job on my house. Radon levels are very low now. The technicians were kind and experienced.
Response from the owner:Thank you for the 5 Stars! We truly appreciate your business and positive feedback!
Very professional, willing to work with and will definitely recommend 10/10
Response from the owner:Thank you for the positive review and 5 stars! We're glad you're pleased with our team and services!
Like many people, I was reminded of radon as an issue by a recent series in the Columbus Dispatch. Our 100 year old home has a finished basement. Protect Environmental set up monitoring equipment and determined that we had levels of around 10 pCi/L, something confirmed by a consumer grade monitor I purchased independently. Shad Evans of Protect Environmental helped determine where to install a mitigation system and exhaust pipe, something complicated by our house’s window, dormer and exterior utilities placement. Lead technician Larry and his colleague explained what they were doing, were extremely neat, and installed the system in a few hours time. The exhaust pipe placement in particular was thoughtfully done. The result… within 24 hours, the radon level was below 1.0 pCi/L and has remained there since installation. Excellent company.
Response from the owner:Mr. Wheeler - Thank you for taking the time to leave the 5 stars and positive feedback. We're happy you're pleased with our team and services. We're passionate about radon mitigation and are glad we could help create a healthier home for you & your family. And we truly appreciate your business! ~The PE Team / Radon Be Gone
The company did an excellent job of installing and explaining the radon mitigation system. They were able to get the radon levels from a starting point of 27 to under 1 after the system was installed. I have already recommended them to a neighbor.

We're so glad you're pleased and that the radon system is creating a healthier home for you & your family!! And thank you for telling your neighbor about us - we'll take good care of them as well! =)
Great communication, expert knowledge, easy explanation, easy to schedule, professional, very satisfied with update to my 14 year old system.

Great service. Got me the model of my old fan from a previous business's records.
Response from the owner:Thanks for the 5-Stars! Let us know if you ever need anything else! PE
Setting up the appointment was easy and able to be done fairly quickly. The technicians for the pre-install, full installation, and follow-up visits were very knowledgeable, friendly, and very thorough in their work and in answering our questions. Their explanations of the system and how it works and what to watch for were very clear. They were also very careful working in our home, and cleaned up the work areas well. We recommend them highly for RADON Mitigation work!
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the positive feedback and 5-star review! We'll pass it along to our team. We really appreciate your business!
If I could, I'd give them a 10! From start to finish with a radon mitigation system installation, they were all very professional, friendly, welcoming of questions without impatience, and very communicative by email and texts. They instilled confidence that they know their stuff. Four days after they installed our mitigation system, our radon level dropped from a scary 53 pCi/L to 0.9 pCi/L. This company is great!
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the positive feedback & 5-Star review! We're so glad you're pleased with our services & team. We truly appreciate your business and are happy you & your family can breathe easier with the radon system in place! 🙂 ~The PE Team
I have a slightly more complex setup with a crawl, newer perimeter French drain, finished basement, and egress window and Protect Environmental got my levels down from 11 to 1.5! Portia in the office is super friendly and responsive, and Brad and his team are extremely knowledgeable and hard working. They beat three other quotes I received, too. Couldn't be happier and would HIGHLY recommend!
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the positive feedback & 5 Stars! We're thrilled you're happy with our team & services. We're passionate about reducing radon levels to help create healthier environments for our clients...and we truly appreciate your business! The PE Team
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the 5 stars! We're glad you're pleased with our team and services! PE
Fine for installation but subsequent service is not the best. No idea when they will show up and communication is not the best.
Response from the owner:David - sorry to see your review. I have discussed the situation with our office staff and I know that we narrowed down the arrival window to 12 - 2 based off the number of appointments that our estimator had for the day, unfortunately we do not know how long each appointment will take and today the estimator was running ahead of schedule and was not able to meet you. We did however talk with and provide feedback to Michael in regards to our findings and recommendations for next steps. I would be happy to set a time to come out and discuss these findings in person, just let us know some time slots and I will make one of these work. Shad Evans - Columbus Branch Manager
Response from the owner:Thank you for the 5 Stars - we truly appreciate it!
noah and Ethan were very professional and friendly. I am 100% sure that the job that they have done will surpass anyone in the business. before they started they made sure all the details in the original estimate is what they are going to do. they informed me of the process and the time involved. they asked if I had any questions as they explained everything. once they finished they explained the operation of the system and checking of the sensor for me to observe regularly. they protected all the work areas with coverings. we're very satisfied and will recommend the company to others. thanks again. Michael Smerdell Delaware Ohio

Response from the owner:So glad you're pleased with Dyllon & Chris and their work! Thanks for taking the time to leave a 5-Star review...we really appreciate it! ~The PE Team
I was referred to Protect Environmental and the results was amazing. From the first call getting scheduled for a quote to installation. Everyone was professional, punctual, and friendly. I was told it would be 7-10 day turnaround from signing a contract to install but due to a project being completed sooner they were able to fit me in the schedule earlier than expected. The day of the installation went rather well was able to watch and ask questions the tech was friendly and made sure I understood everything before leaving. I will be referring people to this company going forward.
Response from the owner:Thank you for the positive feedback and 5-Star Review! We're so glad you're pleased with our team and system. We truly appreciate your business and referrals! ~PE
Great job! Explained the whole process before they started and went over everything when they finished. Cleaned everything up nicely. Noah and Ethan both very professional and knowledgeable.
Response from the owner:We're glad you're pleased with our team & services - thank you so much for the 5 stars and taking the time to leave a review. We'll definitely pass the positive feedback along! Sincerely, PE
Had Noah come in to work on internal installation with Ryan and Ethan working on external for a new radon mitigation system. We got three crawl spaces and a pump, and they did a great job working throughout the day to seal things up and explain the system to us. It'll be another day to come in and lay the plastic cover to finish sealing, but all the other work was done and it looks great so far. Noah did well explaining how we can check the system to ensure it works, where all the pipes are running, where the exits are, and they labeled well on the box where the switch is for the system so we can be aware. They let us know that if we run into issues we can call them and for the pump they put in a window held by three screws and sealed with a gasket so we can see whats going on in there without having to remove the seal. Great company to work with so far and we look forward to the finished system and getting to see it work. The fan is already running and it is quite pleasantly quiet so we're happy about that as well. I expected it to be louder than it is, so it was a nice surprise. We have wildlife in the area and they meshed the top to ensure no birds, bats, or squirrels get in there.
Response from the owner:Thank you for the positive feedback & 5 Star Review! We'll be sure to pass it to your team!! PE
The service was excellent! Noah and Chris were very professional, thorough, and responsible! They worked hard and did an amazing job getting rid of the radon in my house!
Response from the owner:Thank you for the positive feedback - we'll definitely pass it along to your team! We're glad you're pleased with their work and the results of the radon system. We truly appreciate your business!
We had Protect Environmental install a Radon mitigation system and sump pump. They were on time and did a good job in resolving my Radon issue.
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the review and 5 stars! We truly appreciate your business. ~The PE Team
Protect Environmental did an excellent job throughout the entire process of mitigating the radon level in my house. Brad was thorough, knowledgeable and professional. He explained the process and options when he came to my house to inspect it and give me an estimate. Noah and Ethan arrived early and were professional and knowledgeable. They explained the process and did an exceptional job installing the mitigation system and sealing cracks in the garage floor. Additionally they were polite and congenial, answering my questions. The job was completed within 2-3 hours and the clean up was immaculate. I highly recommend Protect Environmental.
Response from the owner:Thank you for the great feedback and 5 Stars! We're glad you're pleased and will definitely pass the feedback to Brad, Noah and Ethan. We truly appreciate your business!! Installed by Licensed and Certified Radon Professionals

Radon mitigation requires specialized training and expertise. Systems must be installed safely and correctly to perform as designed.

Our team includes state-licensed and certified radon mitigation professionals on every job. We follow installation standards set by the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP).

Every system is designed to match the home’s foundation type, building layout, and soil conditions. This is how we ensure long-term performance.

Benefits of Professional Radon Mitigation

Reduced Radon Exposure

Mitigation systems safely vent radon gas outdoors before it can enter the home.

Improved Indoor Air Quality

Lower radon levels help create a healthier indoor environment.

Long-Term Protection

Professionally installed systems are designed to operate continuously and effectively.

Increased Peace of Mind

Homeowners can feel confident that radon risks have been addressed.

Radon Mitigation System Components Explained

Radon mitigation systems are designed to prevent radon gas from entering the home by safely redirecting it outdoors before it can accumulate indoors. Most residential radon mitigation systems include the following components:

1. Suction Point

A small opening created through the foundation or slab that allows radon gas to be drawn from beneath the home.

Durable PVC piping safely carries radon gas from beneath the home to a discharge point above the roofline.

A specialized fan creates negative pressure beneath the foundation, preventing radon gas from entering the building.

Foundation cracks, sump pits, and other openings may be sealed to help improve system effectiveness.

Many systems include a monitoring device that allows homeowners to confirm that the system is operating properly.

When properly designed and installed by certified professionals, these systems provide reliable long-term radon reduction.

Signs Your Home May Need Radon Mitigation

Radon is invisible and odorless. Elevated levels can exist in a home with no warning signs. Professional testing is the only reliable way to detect it.

Certain situations indicate that mitigation may be necessary:

If elevated levels are detected, a mitigation system can significantly reduce radon concentrations and restore healthier indoor air.

Radon Mitigation vs DIY Solutions

When it comes to protecting your home from radon, choosing the right approach matters. While DIY radon test kits and mitigation attempts may seem convenient or cost-effective, they often fail to provide the accurate diagnostics and long-term protection necessary to truly safeguard your home and family.

Factor Professional Radon Mitigation DIY Radon Solutions
Accuracy of Measurement Advanced diagnostics with continuous radon monitors (CRMs), micromanometer pressure testing, and grab samplers ensure precise characterization of your home. Basic test kits provide a single average reading; errors in placement can lead to false results.
System Design Custom-designed systems based on foundation type, airflow, and building layout. Generic solutions or self-installed fans may not address all radon entry points.
Effectiveness Proven, guaranteed reduction of radon levels across the entire home. Often inconsistent; may leave some radon entry points unaddressed.

Key Takeaway: DIY methods may seem simpler, but they rarely provide the accuracy, effectiveness, or reliability necessary to protect your home from radon. Professional mitigation ensures your system is engineered, installed, and verified to create a healthy indoor environment.

Radon Mitigation FAQs

What is radon mitigation and how does it work?

Radon mitigation is the process of reducing radon levels in a home using engineered ventilation systems. The most common method is sub-slab depressurization, which uses a fan and PVC piping to draw radon from beneath the foundation and safely vent it above the roofline.

Professionally installed radon mitigation systems can reduce radon levels by up to 99% in many homes.

Most residential mitigation systems can be installed in one day.

Mitigation systems are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible while still operating effectively. Our experts can also discuss with you your options for installing the system piping through the interior of the home through your garage or closet, for example.

Mitigation systems are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible while still operating effectively. Our experts can also discuss with you your options for installing the system piping through the interior of the home through your garage or closet, for example.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends installing a mitigation system when radon levels reach 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher. The EPA also encourages homeowners to consider mitigation between 2.0 and 3.9 pCi/L, since no level of radon exposure is considered fully safe.

Yes. A properly designed and installed mitigation system can reduce radon concentrations by up to 99 percent. Most homes can be brought well below the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L, often to 2.0 pCi/L or lower, when the system is engineered for the specific structure.
